Saturday 10-19-24 Day 40

 Saturday 10-19-24  Day 40 Payton Elks Lodge, Payton AZ Woke to a chilly morning with army helicopters flying overhead and old military planes buzzing around.   Weather has cleared and no more wind.  We dumped our tanks, filled up with potable water and departed for Scottsdale after our morning walk instead of Phoenix as Scottsdale had hookups.   Taking 87 west to Scottsdale AZ hoping to snag a spot at the Scottsdale Elks Lodge with hookups and laundry!  If not, we will go to the the Phoenix Elks which is basically boondocking.   We had our choice of 8 spots in Scottsdale and there are no other RV’s here! (others came later) They are having a fundraising event tonight with a live band so it will be loud till at least 10 PM.   In 2019 Scottsdale received the prestigious designation of a gold level Bicycle Friendly Community from the League of American Bicyclists.  One of 35 gold level cities in the U.S.  We left the Lodge on our bike...

Friday 10-18-24. Day 39

 Friday 10–18-24  Day 39 Payton Elks Lodge, Payton AZ As expected the weather came in early early this morning – strong winds and rain.  Too windy to take the trailer on the road so we are spending a second night in Payton.  We are blogging this morning and hope the weather will clear up for the afternoon.   The rain and wind stopped, it was cold and overcast but felt good to be outside. We had a wonderful hike at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park this afternoon.  Park HQ and lodge A display of some of the wildlife in the Tonto Bridge State Park. We didn't see any                It is believed the largest natural travertine bridge in the world is in this park.  The bridge stands 183 feet high, over a 400 foot long tunnel that measures 150 feet at its widest point.                                         ...
